Description: After an introductory talk about the health situation in the region, we will learn about the daily work of a midwife in the village of La Calera. We continue the tour with a visit to a shaman who will explain Andean spirituality and cosmovision. After a healthy lunch we will learn about the different medicinal plants in an organic garden. We will finish the tour with a visit to Lake Cuicocha, where we have time for a short hike or a boat trip on the lake (optional).

Tour Itinerary*
– 9:00am: meeting point Runa Tupari office in Otavalo (pick-up from hotel in Otavalo is possible)
– 9:30am: indigenous midwife, explanation and demonstration of her work
– 11:00am: indigenous shaman, explantion and demonstration of his work
– 12:30pm: lunch in Cotacachi, free time to explore the city and its leather shops
– 2:00pm: ethnobotanical garden, explanations about medicinal plants
– 2:45pm: drive to Cuicocha Lake, free time at the lake (~45min)
– 4:00pm: return to Otavalo
